Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) is offering a selection of Short Courses during the early months of 2022. The majority of these will be presented in conjunction with CAE (Centre for Adult Education) in Melbourne. All courses will be delivered Online until the demand for “live” classroom presentations warrants a return to traditional methods.

The courses will include:

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) is scheduled to commence two Short Courses in mid October for CAE (Centre for Adult Education).

“Australia: From Colonial Outpost to Federated Nation” explores the art and literature that emerged during the first century of European settlement as a response to an alien land and its indigenous inhabitants.

“A Great War of Words” investigates the various roles that the written, spoken and sung word played during the First World War, from well known “War Poets” to propaganda posters, trench journalism and letters home.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) recently presented another selection of short courses for the Centre for Adult Education Talks program. These included new courses addressing the French Revolution, the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca and early 20^th Century painting, along with the first of a projected series of short courses covering the development of Western vocal music. We also revisited the first stage of an ongoing journey around the Mediterranean.

Armchair Education sessions at the Forest Hill Retirement Village and St. Joseph’s Mews continue to attract a regular audience who enjoy the diverse range of offerings and the blend of information and entertainment.

More CAE Short Courses are scheduled for the May through August period. These will explore the Spanish Civil War, Australian culture in the 1930s, the Cold War in the 1940s, three Australian painters and Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. In the pipeline are courses addressing the 1960s, a Mediterranean journey along the coast of Turkey and music in the Renaissance.

More APL National Gallery of Victoria visits are also being offered for May and June.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) has recently presented another selection of History and Literature courses for Melbourne’s Centre for Adult Education. These included new courses addressing the Italian Risorgimento and the Songs of William Blake plus a rerun of the popular study of Germany between the Wars.

Sunday evening sessions at the Forest Hill Retirement Village continue to offer a diverse range of cultural talks which educate and entertain, and residents at St. Joseph’s Mews in Hawthorn are also dipping into this program.

Coming up in the New Year at CAE will be a batch of Short Courses on a variety of topics including the Theatre of the Ancient Greeks, the History and Culture of the Mediterranean region, a History of Vocal Music and Singing, the Life and Work of Federico Garcia Lorca, Four late 19^th Century French artists and the French Revolution.

More APL National Gallery of Victoria visits are also being offered for December and January.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) has recently completed another successful batch of lecture presentations. Oscar Wilde returned to the Centre for Adult Education for a brief encore season and was followed by a behind the scenes look at the Art of the Italian Renaissance. A repeat of the popular course on the French Impressionists and a new instalment in the Cold War series were also well received.

Sunday evening sessions at the Forest Hill Retirement Village continue to entertain and inform, and this diverse program of cultural talks has recently been taken up by St. Joseph’s Mews in Hawthorn.

Coming up later this year are CAE Short Courses addressing a variety of topics. New courses on the Italian Risorgimento and the Songs of William Blake have been scheduled, and I have been invited to offer repeats of Mediterranean Journeys (Part 1), Germany between the Wars and Performance and Politics at the court of Louis XIV.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) has successfully completed another round of lecture presentations for Melbourne’s Council for Adult Education. These included new short courses exploring the art of the Post Impressionists and the life and writings of George Orwell. Courses on Renaissance Florence and Medieval France once again proved popular. The Sunday evening Music/Travel sessions at the Forest Hill Retirement Village are continuing to please residents and guests. The final operas of Rossini, the songs of Noel Coward and the first home grown Australian opera have been enjoyed in recent weeks.

Coming up during the next few months are CAE Short Courses addressing a range of topics. These include: Literature and the Great War, Oscar Wilde, Italian Renaissance art, the French Impressionists, the Cold War, early Twentieth Century painting, Nineteenth Century Australian history and the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. The latter two will connect directly with a NGV exhibition and a MTC production.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) has recently completed another successful batch of lecture presentations. The second four part instalment of an ongoing voyage around the Mediterranean was delivered for Melbourne’s Council for Adult Education. This was followed by a repeat of the popular “Germany Between the Wars” course. Three sessions on the Spanish Civil War were presented as an independent venture and a series of three illustrated introductions to 20^th Century artists took place on Saturday afternoons at the historic Villa Alba in Kew.

The Sunday evening Music/Travel sessions at the Forest Hill Retirement Village are continuing to prove popular. The operas of Rossini, Queen Victoria’s music, the Spanish Zarzuela and Gilbert and Sullivan have recently been on the agenda.

Coming up during the opening months of 2018 are CAE Short Courses addressing a variety of topics. These include: Literature and the Great War, English Romantic Poetry, Post Impressionist painting, Medieval France, Renaissance Florence, George Orwell and introductions to three further Shakespearean plays.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) is pleased to report that several new Short Courses have recently been delivered for the Council of Adult Education (CAE) in Melbourne.

The first, a four session course, was entitled A Paddle in Plato’s Pond and explored a region of the Mediterranean Sea including Crete, the Aegean Islands and South Western Turkey. Rebels and Reactionaries addressed cultural life in Australia during the 1930s. This course was designed to complement a current exhibition at the NGV. The tragic genius of Oscar Wilde was the subject of a short study, and was followed by the first of an ongoing series of introductions to Shakespearean plays. Currently running is a course on the early years of the Cold War.

Another dip in Plato’s Pond will take place in October with the journey continuing northwards along the Turkish coast. Also coming up in October and November are return seasons of Spain: Selling the Truth and Germany Between the Wars (scheduled for early evening timeslots) and a course on the cultural life of the French Revolution.

Another Perspective on Learning (aka Richard Stone) has successfully negotiated the opening months of 2017 and is now in preparation for the late Autumn/early Winter period. Behind us are midweek CAE short courses addressing Australian history, Romantic poetry, Great War literature and the rise of the Third Reich. Weekly Sunday evening presentations at Forest Hill have covered a variety of music related topics including the life and work of Verdi.

Coming up in May, June and July are CAE courses on music and power at the court of Louis XIV, a survey of the great playwrights from the Western theatrical tradition, an introduction to four significant 20^th Century literary figures, sessions on French Impressionist painting and visits to the NGV. We will also commence a cultural tour of the Mediterranean region. Beyond that, plans are in place for short courses on the Renaissance, Shakespeare, the Cold War, Australia in the 1930s and Oscar Wilde. Meanwhile, the series “Music and the Metropolis” is continuing on Sunday evenings.

A program of one off lecture/discussions addressing the life and art of historically significant local and international visual artists is scheduled to commence at the Hawthorn Library in May.
